ChipMOS Energy Management Initiate the Three-Stage Energy Transformation

In 2014, ChipMOS received guidance from the Industrial Development Administration (IDA), Ministry of Economic Affairs and introduced the ISO 50001 energy management system in the Tainan Fab. In 2015 and 2019, ChipMOS was invited by IDA to conduct "Energy Management Demonstration Observation and Experience Sharing", and to accept "CommonWealth Magazine Exclusive Interview", and "Business Today Exclusive Interview on Promotion Results of Excellent Manufacturers". In mid-September, the Executive Vice President Vincent Hsu represented ChipMOS to accept an exclusive interview with Business Today again, to share how ChipMOS gradually promotes energy improvement plans and energy-saving management methods.
ChipMOS has experienced the "counseling period", "growth period" and the current "autonomy period" three stages in promoting energy management. It takes the concepts of point, line and plane as the core. First, strengthen single equipment and hardware (point). Next, connect and optimize software and hardware systems (line). And finally, integrate with factory-side production equipment and introduce AI, to upgrade factory technologies and maximize energy-saving benefits. The energy-saving rate is expected to increase significantly from 1.58% to 3.03% in 2023.
"Internal communication is the biggest difficulty in promoting energy management." Vincent Hsu said. "We educate employees not only energy conservation concepts but also that energy conservation is not the responsibility of a single department, but requires cross-departmental cooperation, communication and coordination. " ChipMOS's energy-saving management spirit is promoted and implemented from top to bottom. An energy-saving competition has been held since 2022, it provides incentives to encourage employees to inspire innovative carbon reduction proposals, enhances the energy-saving awareness of all employees, and drives the company's low-carbon culture.
ChipMOS's energy-saving actions are not only implemented within the company, but also spread outward to expand its green influence, including joining hands with the supply chain execute carbon reduction projects, industrial experience exchanges, and joining the Tainan City Net Zero Guidance Group. We hope to drive upstream and downstream partners to jointly build a low-carbon supply chain and realize a net-zero future.
